Himmler orders creation of Schuma Battalions Ukrainische Schutzmannschaft Btl 201. Created from the Nachtigall and Roland Battalions. OUN-B controlled. They were sent to Byelorussia in March 1941 to serve with the 201 Security Division. By October they were very unhappy with their duties an expressed it to the Germans. They showed their understanding by sending the leaders to a KZ. The battalion was dissolved in 1943. |

| Ukrainian Schuma Btl. Had a German C.O., 31 German officers and NCO’s. Usually these came from German Pol. Battalions. Galicia had 201 – 250, actual used numbers were 201 – 212 202 was a Polish Btl. (1942) 203 – 206 (1943) 207 – 212 (1944) August 1942, Germans decided to issue only 70 rounds of ammo to each Schuma soldier due to reliability problems. Same was decided in the North. | 30 SS – Brigade Siegling rec. Schuma Btl. 57, 61, 62, 63 in Aug. 44. Also assigned to the SS 30 was the Ukr. SD Btl 23. Also known as Btl Murajew in Sept 44. Possibly from SSPF Murajew and used as execution troops? Ordered west via E. Prussia, Frankfurt, Strasbourg, then to Burgundy. Then to fight Partisans in the Belfort-Muhlhausen area and also assigned to the Westwall. By Nov 1944 fighting Allied troops. They then retreated to the Rhine due to heavy casualties. In February transferred as a Brigade to the Vlasov army. Replacement battalion for Ukr. Schuma was Police Shutzen Eratz Btl. Kijow. Ukr Schuma Regiments – 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, April 1943 Reg 36 July 43 Reg 37 Nov. 43 Reg 36, 37 came from existing Schuma Btl. Reg 32 dissolved Aug 43, men went to the new regiments. Reg 33, dissolved March 1944 Reg 35, 37 dissolved April 1944 Reg 31, 36 dissolved August 1944 Reg 34, dissolved February 1945 |
